A SALUTE TO THE UNITED
STATES AIR FORCE
In the year nineteen forty seven
The U.S. Air Force was born anew
Steeped in Army Air Corps tradition
And legends of World War II
The Air Force played a major roll
In Korea and Vietnam
And remains the ruler of the skies
For liberty and Uncle Sam
Those who serve in the Air Force
Are our guardians in the sky
Ever alert and ready
In fortresses they fly
Unfettered by all earthly bonds
They soar on silver wings
Meeting the challenges of today
And whatever tomorrow brings
Airmen are admired and respected
Where ever they may be
And their uniforms are a symbol
Of courage and victory
Members of the Air Force
Share more than fame and glory
They are part of the history of flight
And the great American story
The Air Force is proud of its pilots
and crews
But it is a multi-faceted team
And the contributions of very airman
Is what makes the service supreme
As an elite military service
Perfection is its quest
And those who wear the Air Force blue
Are America’s very best
